There are so many fantasy books and series that I have never read and want to get around to, but despite that taking up a lot of my reading time there are also books and series that I want to read again.
Why? Well, the main reason is because I’ve forgotten what happened in the books! I’ve been sorting through my reviews on this site and goodreads and realised that a lot of my older reviews aren’t as good as the ones I have been writing recently. Call it a matter of experience.
So, with that in mind, I here is the list of fantasy series that I want to reread in an effort to: 1) dive into a world and follow characters that I loved but have forgotten; and 2) have the knowledge I need to rewrite some old reviews and talk about the books some more!
Number 1: Anything written by Trudi Canavan
I loved The Age of Five Trilogy, and the two trilogies set in Kyralia (plus the prequel). They were the first epic fantasy books I read when I was 10 years-old. I remember reading them over and over again obsessively, but it’s been a long time and the reviews I have up for them aren’t very good.
Number 2: Artemis Fowl
I loved these books as a kid and I miss them! They’re quick reads and exciting so I should get through them pretty quickly. I miss how clever Artemis is and how the world grows with every entry. It’s a series that isn’t talked about enough so I’m going to get to them soon and write reviews and maybe some discussion posts too.
Number 3: The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini
With Paolini’s new science-fiction book coming out later this year, it got me thinking that it’s been a while since I read Eragon. It might not have been the most original of stories, but it’s a strong plot and the characters were driven and had great development arcs. I remember it being a great series so I want to dive back into it soon. Also, my reviews for the books are terrible and I want to do them justice.
Number 4: Harry Potter
Now, it’s been so many years since I read any Harry Potter books that I don’t think I can remember anything that really happens. Sure, I know the main plot and some of the films come to mind, but I haven’t read the books in such a long time. I’ve been buying the illustrated editions every year as they’ve come out so it’s about time I jumped into them again.
Number 5: The Lord of the Rings
I reread The Hobbit last year as I was studying it for a university assignment, and I told myself I had to continue reading The Lord of the Rings, but I had a lot of work to do and I completely forgot about it. I loved these books growing up and I want to feel the same nostalgic love for them as I did when rereading The Hobbit. I also need to update my review for The Hobbit.
