Themis Files by Sylvain Neuvel
This trilogy has quickly become one of my favourite modern fantasy series. Written in an epistolary format, it is very easy to read and you flick through the pages quickly. The story is fantastic. Check out my reviews for Sleeping Giants (#1), and Waking Gods (#2).
Foundation Trilogy by Isaac Asimov
The original series is supposed to be the best and I loved it when I read it. This series is classic SF though, so don’t go into it expecting Star Wars! It’s fantastic but very different to modern SF which is much more character driven. Check out my reviews for Foundation (#1), and Foundation and Empire (#2).
This series is a YA, apocalyptic series which is great for the Summer. You can read one of these books in an afternoon and there are only 4 so they won’t take much time and are enjoyable reads. My review for The 100 (#1) is here.
Honestly, this one or Artemis would be great – or both! The Martian, is a fantastic book of survival and humanity. That’s the best a quick summary can do but I have a review here.
And finally, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
It’s going to be hot this summer, so why not read a book with fire in it? This is one of the greatest dystopian novels of all time so get stuck in and be terrified of the similarities Montag’s world is beginning to share with our own. My review for the book is here!
