The Slow Regard of Silent Things Book Review
I didn’t finish The Slow Regard of Silent Things so I won’t put a rating on it.
I’ll begin with the positives
Firstly, the artwork in The Slow Regard of Silent Things is beautiful. It’s some of the best artwork in a modern fantasy book, except for maybe the work in Brandon Sanderson‘s The Stormlight Archive. It’s wonderful and really brings the Underthing alive.
Secondly, Auri is a wonderful character and it really was a pleasure watching her interact with the larger world around her.
This book just wasn’t for me
Patrick Rothfuss was right in saying that some may not wish to read this book. I gave it a go because I was intrigued by the main character and I wanted to see a little more of the world he created.
I just struggled because I felt like I got what I came for 20 pages into the book, and I couldn’t see it changing later on. There was no plot and The Slow Regard of Silent Things wasn’t going anywhere. I would have read a short story of this, but not a novella.
This book is for people who want to see more of Auri and don’t mind reading something with no narrative substance.
Despite this review, I do suggest borrowing it from the library at least and having a go (if you’ve read both The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear that is).
It’s worth trying once.
