‘Saw X’ Could Be Amazing: Thoughts & What We Know So Far
After the disappointment of Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021), I am hoping my excitement for Saw X, the tenth and upcoming movie in the Saw franchise, is not misplaced. Kevin Greutert is directing, so we can only hope that as an Editor or Director of many previous movies in the franchise, he brings the focus of the movies back to their gritty roots with some awesome twists.
What We Know So Far
Before I get into some thoughts on the upcoming movie, here is what we know about Saw X so far.
Director, Writers, Producers, etc.
The movie is directed by Kevin Greutert, who has previously worked as the Editor on Saw, Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV, Saw V, and Jigsaw. He then also went on to direct Saw VI, Saw 3D (The Final Chapter), and was an executive producer of Spiral.
The producers are Mark Burg (one of the producers of Saw, Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV, Saw V, Saw VI, Saw 3D, Jigsaw, and Spiral), and Oren Koules (one of the producers of Saw, Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV, Saw V, Saw VI, Saw 3D, Jigsaw and Spiral). Koules also played Donnie Greco in Saw, Saw III, and Saw IV.
The writers for Saw X are Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger who were both writers on Jigsaw and Spiral.

What I Am Hoping For
Unlike the previous two movies, Jigsaw and Spiral, we are back to naming the latest Saw movie in the same style as all the previous ones. This, plus the confirmation that John Kramer (Tobin Bell) is returning, along with Amanda Young (Shawnee Smith) could indicate that we are going to see a story more similar to the original series.
In my review of Spiral, I talked about missing the complex plot, twists, and gritty, dark feel which I believe that movie lacked, as did Jigsaw a bit, but not as much. If Saw X takes place between Saw and Saw II, as some rumors suggest, I think we can get excited for this interquel!
John Kramer can take a more leading role once more, much like Saw II, bringing the most fascinating aspect of this franchise back to the forefront. With how little the previous movies reveal outside what they have to for their main plots and twists, there is potentially plenty to play with here – perhaps for more than one movie! The best thing about this franchise is the complexity of the interconnected narratives, and how satisfying the reveals are once all the pieces are put together. Spiral especially lacked this aspect of the franchise, so I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing not just a great main plot, but also plenty of flashbacks leading to an awesome reveal at the end.
