The Fantasy Review: Tehanu Special Edition Reviewed – The Folio Society.
I was very kindly sent the Folio Society’s Tehanu special edition and it is as beautiful as the Earthsea Cycle special editions! This is a review of this specific special edition, so if you are looking for reviews of Ursula K. Le Guin’s books, here are a few useful links:
Once again, David Lupton brings this incredible story to life with gorgeous illustrations throughout. It is the perfect addition to my collection of the first three Earthsea Cycle special editions from The Folio Society.
This might be the best cover of this series so far, with the dragon breathing fire which wraps around the spine of the book. Again, the quality of the covers is great, but I am glad for the protective slipcase, keeping the cover art safe from any accidental scratches.
Inside the book we get a look at the fantastic version of the Earthsea map inside the front cover which is always something I can just stare at for ages and find something new in every time. The page quality is just outstanding. It is far thicker than regular books, so the pages are more resilient and actually very nice to flick through.
I have previously compared the effects of David Lupton’s illustrations in these books to Alan Lee’s illustrations of Tolkien’s work. The images fully realise the tone and atmosphere of the book and its characters and are incredible just to sit and look at.
Overall, I love this Tehanu special edition from The Folio Society and hope they will continue to make their own versions of Ursula K. le Guin’s other books in this series!
