The Fantasy Review‘s Spoiler-Free Review of Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013).
Rating: 1/5
How do you go from the incredible characters and plot that was Insidious (2010) to the dismal storytelling of Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)? It’s almost hard to believe that James Wan was involved.
Take everything that was good about the original Insidious movie, remove it, and replace it with generic characters, boring dialogue, and a mystery no one is interested in. Then you will have Insidious: Chapter 2.
We explore plot lines in this movie that didn’t need to be explored, removing all the mystery and horror of the first movie. We learn everything there is to know about the entities from the previous movie, making them almost into jokes rather than the creepy entities they were before.
The Lambert family’s story should have ended with the first movie, with future movies being more like what they do with Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015), following previous cases with Elise.
I have nothing else to say about this movie because it’s pointless and can be happily skipped.
