Any fan of the comedy horror genre is going to fall in love with Emma D’Arcy’s underrated series, Truth Seekers. Created by Nick Frost, Simon Pegg, James Serafinowicz, and Nat Saunders, this show was unfortunately cancelled after only one season, but it is well worth a watch!
Nick Frost plays the central character, Gus Roberts, who is a broadband installer by day, and ghost-hunter by night. Alright, he does both at the same time, normally during the day, but it sounded more dramatic.
Gus gets a new colleague at work called Elton John (Samson Kayo) and strange things start happening wherever they go. This is stressful for Elton, but very exciting for Gus, who finally has something cool to put on his Truth Seekers YouTube channel.
Emma D’Arcy’s Mysterious Character
In the first episode, we see someone run across the road in front of Gus and Elton in their work van. This is Astrid, Emma D’Arcy’s character.
Astrid is having a bad day. She’s being chased by ghosts and thinks her life is in danger. Gus and Elton agree to help her. That’s all the plot I will provide for fear of spoilers, but that is the premise in a nutshell.
Truth Seekers is Criminally Underrated
With a 71% critics score, and 81% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, it is hard to see why Amazon cancelled one of the best comedy horror shows in recent memory.
Season 1 gave us an engaging and exciting mystery, some brilliant characters I desperately wanted to see more of, and some great humour that managed to remain sinister when it needed to be.
If you loved House of the Dragon and Emma D’Arcy’s portrayal of Rhaenyra Targaryen, but want to see them in a more humorous role, watch Truth Seekers! All eight episodes are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
