M3GAN 2.0 (2025) is exactly what I wanted to see in a sequel to M3GAN (2022)!!!
M3GAN 2.0 is what the original movie should have been. Sure, M3GAN (2022) dealt with more complex themes and posed interesting questions about guilt, parenthood, AI, etc, but it struggled to combine that with being a PG-13 horror movie.
What M3GAN 2.0 does is stops pretending to care about being serious and turns the story into an action-thriller movie that all the TikTok peeps will love. And it is brilliant.
The creators could have gone in another direction, doubling down instead on a more intimate setting with deeper themes. They could have tried to make the story scarier, harrowing… but with the original movie in the background, no one would have ever taken that seriously, no matter how well they did it.
The best course of action was the movie we got: an action movie with AI assassins and some political thriller stuff in there too.
Is this a “good” movie? No. Is this a totally rewatchable and highly enjoyable movie? Hell yeah!I’m keeping this review of M3GAN 2.0 short because that is literally all the non-spoiler stuff you can say about the movie. It’s fun, so go give it a watch.
