6 Doctor Who Spin-offs We NEED to See!

The Fantasy Review’s list of 6 Doctor Who spin-offs we need to see.

With the release of The War Between the Land and the Sea, I think all Doctor Who fans have been reminded of how good it is to get a spin-off TV series set in the Whoniverse! I was lucky enough to be growing up when we had The Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood coming out weekly!

Now, there have been a few misses with Doctor Who spin-offs in the past (K9 TV shows, Class…) but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t make more!

#1 – The Fifth Doctor & Tegan

6 Doctor Who Spin-offs We NEED to See!

First on this list of Doctor Who spin-offs we need to see is the reason I wanted to write this article: a Fifth Doctor and Tegan TV series. The trailer they made for the release of the Season 21 blu-ray collection (coming March 16, 2026) was INCREDIBLE!

Tegan and the Fifth Doctor were back! And after landing the TARDIS they investigate the surrounding area, only to find a dead body and a few Daleks.

I want more of this!

From the comments section on that video and anywhere it was shared online, I am not alone.

This could work – Russell T Davies gave us bi-generation, so why not fiddle with some timey-wimey stuff and get this show made?

#2 – UNIT

Clearly, The War Between the Land and the Sea is a UNIT spin-off, but there’s no reason we can’t have more! I like the idea of having seasons that have a season-long arc, like TWB, and Torchwood’s Children of Earth.

The possibilities are endless, and Barclay would be the perfect “everyman” character to have at the centre of the show – much like Gwen in Torchwood. With the current success of this show, we can only hope.

#3 – Mel/Ace Doctor Who Spin-off

My thinking with a Mel/Ace (or both of them together) Doctor Who spin-off comes from my love of The Sarah Jane Adventures. An old companion protecting the Earth in the memory of the Doctor.

It doesn’t have to be a kid’s show, but why not? I still like rewatching SJA and I’m… old now – thanks for the reminder.

We could get new aliens, new characters, some cross-over events with UNIT… It would be awesome!

#4 – The Eighth Doctor Spin-off Series

You knew you wouldn’t get through a list of Doctor Who spin-offs we need to see without me mentioning a Paul McGann spin-off, so don’t act surprised!

McGann’s Big Finish career is amazing, and him showing up at the 50th Anniversary blew everyone away. Even if you’d never seen or heard him in the role before, he commanded the screen exactly like the Doctor would.

This could be a series set during the Time War, although I think some people have had enough of that. Why not an alternate-universe TV series with Eight travelling with a new companion, many years after the events of the 1996 movie?

The magic of Doctor Who is they could do anything.

#5 – Clara & Me

I’m not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I actually liked the Clara and Me storyline, and I wanted to see what happened to them! Maybe this show would feel repetitive and a little pointless, but I think if someone had an interesting, new idea, it could work!

I just want to see them travel in space and time and kick ass, but I do get that TV shows need to have more than that for a wider audience.

#6 – Gallifrey Spin-off

Why not, and hear me out, have a political drama set on Gallifrey? These Time Lords are scheming, murderous, selfish characters who wouldn’t be out of place in a George R.R. Martin adaptation.

Imagine House of the Dragon, but on Gallifrey.

The show would look spectacular on the screen, and with the right amount of twisty political scheming to go alongside it, I think it could really take off!

That’s it for my list of 6 Doctor Who spin-offs we need to see. What have I missed from this list you are dying to see on the screen?
