The Fantasy Review’s list of 5 Doctor Who stories to watch after watching The War Between the Land and the Sea.
If you’ve read my reviews/recaps for The War Between the Land and Sea, you will know that I’m really enjoying the show so far. If you like it too, and need more of that Sea Devil-ness, look no further than the following Doctor Who stories.
#1 – The Sea Devils

The classic serial from season 9, with John Pertwee as the Third Doctor, The Sea Devils has recently been re-edited into one 1-hour & 30-minute episode, and it’s brilliant!
If you would rather watch the original six episodes, they are available on iPlayer or DVD.
This is the ultimate classic story of the Sea Devils vs Humans, way before The War Between the Land and Sea.
#2 – Doctor Who and the Silurians

As a kind of “cousin” species to the Sea Devils, the Silurians are a land-based ancient species who were here before humans. If you want to have a broader understanding of the Sea Devils, dive into Doctor Who and the Silurians.
This story is from season 7, John Pertwee’s first series as the Doctor. It is seven episodes of the Doctor trying to make peace between the humans and the Silurians, but things don’t always go the way we want them to.
#3 – Warriors of the Deep

Jump forwards to season 21 with Warriors of the Deep, a Peter Davidson (Fifth Doctor) story that will live on in infamy. These four episodes see the Silurians and the Sea Devils working together against the human race.
The Doctor does everything he can to broker peace and save lives, but peace might just not be possible.
#4 – The Hungry Earth / Cold Blood

In Matt Smith’s era, the Eleventh Doctor stumbles across a disturbed colony of Silurians under a mine in Wales. Focusing on similar themes to the other stories mentioned, the Doctor seeks to broker peace.
Even with some trigger-happy individuals, it seems that this time there just might be hope…
#5 – Legend of the Sea Devils

I’ll be honest, I have added Legend of the Sea Devils to this list of Doctor Who stories to watch if you like The War Between the Land and the Sea, but I don’t recommend it.
But for all the completionists out there, this was the latest sighting of Sea Devils on Doctor Who before the latest spin-off with UNIT.
