Ravagers is a three-part story including the following titles: Sphere of Freedom, Cataclysm, and Food Fight – all written by Nicholas Briggs and performed by a cast including Christopher Eccleston returning to his role as the Ninth Doctor.
Spoiler-Free Review of Doctor Who: Ravagers
Firstly, can we appreciate how lucky we are to get Christopher Eccleston back in his role as the Ninth Doctor? It’s like he never left!
The performances for all three parts are excellent. Camilla Beeput’s character, Nova, is an excellent companion to the Doctor for this story. She reminds me of Rose, the way she bounces questions back and forth with the Ninth Doctor – his brashness is rivalled!
The story over the three parts never feels slow. From the start it’s fast-paced and there’s always something new going on, a new clue to puzzle over, or another danger to escape from/defeat.
The plot is like getting a serialised Doctor Who episode from the classic era and speeding it up a bit! You get plenty of time with the characters – especially Nova – to have a good understanding of them.
Speaking of the plot – it’s good! Not the best Doctor Who story ever, but it’s still damn good fun and exactly what I’ve been missing from the TV show for a long time.
At the heart of the story is a mystery. It’s timey-wimey, but you’ll be hooked to the audio, so you won’t get lost.
