Fantasy Series I am Currently Reading (and Plan to Finish) – May 2019

The Name of the Wind Book Review

With fantasy there are often long series of books to get through – here is a list of the main series I am currently reading and wanting to finish (or read up to the point of the last released book) this year.

A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin

With the end of the tv show, I have a sudden urge to read the rest of the books! I have read the first three books: (click for reviews)

A Game of Thrones (#1),

A Clash of Kings (#2),

and A Storm of Swords: Part 1 – Steel and Snow (#3.0)

And I am currently a third of the way through Part 2 of A Storm of Swords. I have found that this series is easy to read so it shouldn’t take more than a week per book to get through them all, then I will be waiting along with everyone else for the last two books – maybe I will finally read The World of Ice and Fire and Fire and Blood while I wait.

The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss

Talking of waiting for the next book in a series, I have read the first book, The Name of the Wind. (Click for the review)

The second, The Wise Man’s fear is waiting patiently for me on my shelf so I will be picking that up soon.

There is also a novella that adds to the story apparently, A Slow Regard for Silent Things, (I think it’s called that) so there’s plenty to catch up on for now!

The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson

I recently stormed through the first book (horrible pun intended), The Way of Kings (Click for review).

It is fantastic and there are two more books plus a short story or novella (I think) so that’s a couple thousand pages for me to get through before the fourth book comes out.

Millennium’s Rule by Trudi Canavan

I have been a fan of Trudi Canavan’s books since I was 11 years old (thinking back on it, I was a little young for brothels and murder but I LOVED the books!!) so I really should get back into her newest series.

I have read book 1, Thief’s Magic (Click for the review) and I own the next two. They aren’t difficult reads so I should burn through them quickly enough – maybe when I go on holiday!

Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin

This series is a joy to read. I have read books 1 and 2 which are: (click the links for the reviews)

A Wizard of Earthsea (#1)

The Tombs of Atuan (#2)

I can read one of these books in an afternoon and there are only 3 books left I think so I should get this series done quite quickly.

Shattered Sea by Joe Abercrombie

I have read the first book, Half a King and really enjoyed it. (See the review here). There are two books left in the trilogy so I’m looking forward to getting round to them.

The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan

I have read these books so far:

The Eye of the World (#1)

The Great Hunt (#2)

The Dragon Reborn (#3)

The Shadow Rising (#4)

Books 1, 2, and 4 were all amazing but 3 was a little slow and I’m struggling through book 5 right now (I’m 30% through). I’m hoping to continue reading this series as it is good, even if it gets slow now and again. If I finish book 5 by the end of the year I will be happy.

And that is all the fantasy series I am currently reading! Are there any series you are reading? Or any you think I should take a look at? Let me know in the comments below!
