The Fantasy Review’s review of The Parenting (2025).
I’m not ashamed to say that these cheesy horror comedies are my favourite kind of horror movies. The Parenting had everything you could possible want from a film in this sub-genre, except for a good ending.
Spoiler-Free Review of The Parenting (2025)
Immediate comparisons can be made between this movie and The Blackening (2022) – it’s a standard horror setting, with a stereotypical cast, but it’s hilarious. The Parenting is like Evil Dead 2 meets Meet the Fockers and if you’re not sold on that, I don’t know what to tell you!
Often people check out reviews of movies to see if they are any good. Much like my review of The Monkey (2025), all I can say is that The Parenting is entertaining and well worth a watch with some snacks on the sofa.
Sure, it won’t win Oscars, but who goes into movies like this looking for that arty crap?
Having said that, the performances were fantastic. This movie boasts an epic cast list, including the brilliant Brian Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Edie Falco, and Dean Norris. Why are they in this movie? No idea. Am I glad they chose to do a silly movie? Hell yeah!
The first two acts of The Parenting are perfect. No notes. You will die of cringe and I laughed a lot throughout.
Where this movie fails is the final act. It’s rushed and seems like the writer didn’t really know how to finish the story off, but there was some emotional catharsis to the finale that I appreciated and made up for the weird resolution to all the supernatural stuff going on.
There’s not much else to say in a spoiler-free review of The Parenting as this is a movie best to go into with no knowledge of what you’re getting into. On that note, skip the trailer if you haven’t seen it already!
