The Fantasy Review’s review of Morgan: Killer Doll (2025).
This indie horror flick is a fun watch, but probably not something I’ll ever rewatch. The team behind Morgan: Killer Doll are super talented, though, and I can’t wait to see their future projects – I have no doubt they will get better and better.
Spoiler-Free Review of Morgan: Killer Doll (2025)
Let’s talk about the positives first. Morgan: Killer Doll has a similar feel to The Evil Dead (1981). These two indie horror movies share a lot in common when it comes to using camera angles and lighting to make up for a low budget.
The story that is told in this movie is surprisingly good. There are some holes, but I’m happy to say I was hooked and wanted to see where it went. Because the main character was so good, I was excited to follow her journey through the movie.
The best performance by far was the “killer doll” – those who have seen the movie know what I mean. There are long scenes featuring the doll in the third act in which the performances, dialogue, and camera work were gorgeous.
However…
This movie sells itself as being similar to M3GAN and it doesn’t resemble those films in any way. I think that’s a good thing, but if you go off the marketing and the image used for the movie and expect that kind of thing, you’re going to be disappointed.
Despite the cast being pretty strong, the writing focuses mostly on the doll and our main character, Darcy. All other characters don’t really get enough time dedicated to them, so they’re not given the opportunity to shine.
The kills are alright, but because of the low budget they are the most amateur parts of the film. There’s no “horror” in the kills because it’s obviously just someone pretending to get stabbed. The acting is decent, but the practical effects and budget let them down – which is not really any fault of the creators. They did what they could, which is better than most with what they had.
Overall, you should check out Morgan: Killer Doll (2025) for a fun movie with a great main character and central mystery that unfolds into a really engaging and fun final act.
