April Wrap-Up and May TBR (2020)

With there only being one week remaining of April, I’ve put a list together of what I want to read in May. April has been a really good reading month for me and I hope to keep that up!

April Wrap-Up

So far, I have read nine books in April, and hopefully I’ll have finished one more in the next seven days. Reviews for all books listed below are linked to my review:

The Dresden Files

I’ve burned through several books in Jim Butcher‘s The Dresden Files this month, after reading Storm Front (#1) in March. There have been lows and a few highs. I’m hoping that Dead Beat (#7) – which I’m reading right now – will make up for the disappointment of book six. Overall, though, I’ve been enjoying the progression of the series and intend on catching up with the books before the next two are released later this year.

Books Read this month and the Reviews:

Fool Moon (#2)

Grave Peril (#3)

Summer Knight (#4)

Death Masks (#5)

Blood Rites (#6)

The Dragon Republic (The Poppy War #2) by R. F. Kuang

I have certainly been surprised by how much I’ve been enjoying this trilogy so far. The Poppy War (#1) was a great first entry, and I wanted to finish the second book before the third one came out later this year.

Right now I’m just distracting myself with other books and series before the final book comes out!

The Rage of Dragons (The Burning #1) by Evan Winter

I was really hoping to like this book but I didn’t finish it. It wasn’t my thing and I felt like I was forcing myself to read it so I put it down. Read the review for all of my thoughts on the book and my reasons for putting it down.

Luckily, this is the only book I didn’t finish this month.

Gardens of the Moon (Malazan Book of the Fallen #1) by Steven Erikson

After struggling to get through the first third almost a year ago, I picked this book up again and loved it! I finally know why Malazan fans go on about how good this book is, and I’m excited to pick up Deadhouse Gates (#2) and dive deeper into this series.

And finally, The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower #1) by Stephen King

I like to have several fantasy series on at the same time, so I picked Stephen King‘s The Dark Tower and I quite enjoyed it, although this book felt more like a prologue to the series rather than the first main book.

In May, I would like to continue with the three series I have started in March and April, as well as perhaps finish – or at least start – a couple of other books too.

First, is definitely Deadhouse Gates (Malazan Book of the Fallen #2) by Steven Erikson

I ordered the book but the postage has been delayed or I would have begun reading it already! That’s okay though as I have plenty of other books to read while I wait. But once it comes through the letterbox (not that it’ll fit), I’ll be diving right into it.

Next on my list is the continuation of The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher

I am currently reading Dead Beat (#7), and as I managed to read five entries in April, I’m hoping to finish at least another four. That’s Proven Guilty, White Night, Small Favour, and Turn Coat. The next one after that is Changes which I’ve been told is incredible so I might push on to that, but we’ll see.

I want to read at least one more book in The Dark Tower series by Stephen King

So, at some point I will be picking up The Drawing of the Three (#2). I’m hoping that it’s more of the kind of fantasy I’m looking for that The Gunslinger was, and with all of the dedicating fans that love the series, I’m sure it will be!

And finally, some books if I get to them!

The Stand by Stephen King

It by Stephen King

Dune by Frank Herbert.

I probably won’t pick them all up, and the one I choose I probably won’t finish, but I intend on at least starting one of them this month. Now that I’ve just finished a module at university, I have a couple of weeks just to read, so I’m making the most of it!

That’s the list! What are you reading right now and what are you excited to start reading in the next month? And, have you read any of these books? What did you think of them? Let me know in the comments!
