5 Underrated YA Fantasy Series - The Fantasy Review

5 Underrated YA Fantasy Series

I want to share five of my favourite underrated YA fantasy series to add to your TBR!

Fantasy books are currently one of the most popular genres of Young Adult books. There are so many amazing series out there that get the recognition they deserve, however, there are also a lot that fly under the radar.

Ruined Trilogy

Underrated YA Fantasy series

This trilogy by Amy Tintera consists of Ruined, Allied and Avenged. These books were fast-paced and involve lots of political intrigue! The first book also features an enemies-to-lovers relationship.

The main character, Emelina has witnessed her parents’ murders and the kidnapping of her sister and decides to exact revenge on the enemy country Lera and find her sister. She plans to do this by marrying the heir of Lera, Prince Casimir.

What follows is an addictive story of love, revenge, heartbreak, and the power of the Ruined.

Frostblood Saga

Frostblood (Frostblood Saga #1)

It is safe to say that Frostblood, Fireblood and Nightblood take you on an emotional journey. I was obsessed with this story after I finished the first book, and it was torture to wait for the next two to be released!

Elly Blake has created a world where Frostbloods are the ruling class, and the Firebloods remain in hiding. Ruby is a Fireblood, aware of her power but unable to control it.

After witnessing a traumatic event that changes her life, she meets Arcus, a Frostblood, who shares her goal of killing the Frost King. This trilogy takes you on a whirlwind journey between the courts of the Frostbloods and Firebloods and has some great twists. And of course, there is some romance!

Renegades Trilogy

Renegades (Renegades, #1)

Marissa Meyer is quite a popular YA fantasy author, but most people know her for the amazing Lunar Chronicles. Her Renegades trilogy does not get the recognition it deserves.

As a fan of Marvel and DC myself, I have rarely come across good and well-written YA superhero books. The Renegades are the protectors of the city with extraordinary abilities.

Nova, an anarchist, hates the Renegades and goes undercover as one of them to get revenge. I love the characters in this trilogy and could not put these books down!

Isles of Storm and Sorrow Trilogy

Viper (Isles of Storm and Sorrow #1)

I received Viper by Bex Hogan in my first ever Fairyloot box, and I was immediately addicted to the story and characters. The final book in the trilogy is not released until April 2021, so make sure to get your pre-orders going!

This trilogy is all about pirates, Marianne is fated to become the Viper, the defender of the seas. The current Viper, her father, is corrupt and dangerous. This trilogy is a mix of political intrigue, adventure, and magic, with a little bit of romance!

Of Fire and Stars Duology

Underrated YA Fantasy series

Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurt is a great saphhic fantasy duology! Princess Dennaleia is betrothed to the prince of Mynaria, where magic is forbidden.

The only issue is Denna has an affinity for fire. She becomes close to the prince’s sister, Mare and their friendship blossoms over the course of the book.

This duology was all about accepting who you are and following your hear. I loved these characters and feel like their stories need to reach a wider audience!

It was so hard to choose only five, but I had to limit myself as I knew I would go on forever!

I also post about Young Adult books on my personal book blog Lost in Neverland, if you want to check that out!
