Top 10 Best Marvel Films - The Fantasy Review

Top 10 Best Marvel Films

Here is my spoiler-free list of the Top 10 Best Marvel Films! I have grown up with so many great Marvel films coming out and spent much of my childhood and teenage years rewatching my favourites while waiting for the next ones to come out!

Let me know your favourites in the comments!

#10 – Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

Top 10 Best Marvel Films

I rewatched Spider-Man: Homecoming recently and had forgotten how good it was! The highlights for me include the relationship between Peter Parker and Tony Stark (so many good laughs!), and the villain.

The villain is relatable, human, and isn’t totally evil – he just wants what he believes is fair. That happens to include making and selling illegal weapons… but you know.

#9 – Marvel’s The Avengers (2012)

I was fourteen when this film came out and I absolutely loved it! I hadn’t been following the films properly at the time – I had seen Iron Man (2008) and both the old Hulk films (those are definitely not on this list), but that was it.

Having rewatched this too many times to count, I can safely say it was one of my favourote films for a long time, and I’d watch it again if I didn’t already know it backwards.

#8 – Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

Top 10 Best Marvel Films

The film that made both Thor and the Hulk interesting and likeable charcaters! Neither Thor or the Hulk have done well in solo films, but when you put them together, watch the magic happen!

#7 – Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

I had so much fun with Guardians of the Galaxy and would happily watch it again. Groot is forever a favourite, as is Rocket. But to be honest, all the charcaters are a lot of fun – that’s what is so great about this film.

Unlike a lot of the MCU films that came before it, it didn’t take itself too seriously. I believe that because of the popularity of this silliness, we have been seeing more and more of that kind of comedy in superhero films, and I’m all here for it!

#6 – Spider-Man (2002)

Top 10 Best Marvel Films

This was my childhood. I used to watch Spider-Man (2002), The Fellowship of the Ring, and all the Star Wars films that were out, over and over again, in a loop. This is why I am a nerd – and I will forever love this film for introducing me to such awesome stories!

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man/Peter Parker might be a slightly better fit than Tobey Maguire, but Maguire still played the role really well. He was overly geeky and very awkward when talking to anyone, let alone Mary Jane, but I liked that. We had a hero who was essentially a loser, and that’s something every young nerd wants to see (I think!).

#5 – Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Endgame (2019)

When these films came out, I used to work at the cinema and they were packed! Every screening was full and cleaning the screens once the films were done was a horrible job…

But the films were fantastic! These were a brilliant conclusion to the overarching plot that had been playing out since Iron Man in 2008. It was immensely satisfying to see both Endgame and Infinity War. I’m not sure they will ever beat the high of this duo though…

#4 – Black Panther (2018)

Top 10 Best Marvel Films

By the time Black Panther came out, I was starting to get a little tired of the superhero films coming out. They all felt quite similar, just copy and paste with different heroes.

Black Panther was a little like that, but it included enough twists and spins on the superhero film for it to be very enjoyable. This is one of my favourite superhero films of all time.

#3 – Iron Man (2008)

We’re at the film I used to rewatch all the time! Iron Man got the ball rolling with the MCU in 2008 and for good reason! The story of a cocky, arrogant Tony Stark “seeing the light” was refreshing and exciting at the time- and the story still holds up for recent rewatching!

#2 – Deadpool (2016)

Top 10 Best Marvel Films

Deadpool is funny, exciting, fresh and will never get old for me. I absolutely love this film and cannot wait for more sequels. I do think that Deadpool is a character, much like the Hulk and Thor, who needs additional characters for him to bounce off – I am looking forward to seeing him and Wolverine in Deadpool 3!

#1 – Logan (2017)

Top 10 Best Marvel Films

There isn’t a better superhero film out right now than Logan, and I doubt there ever will be – that’s why it is #1 on my Top 10 Best Marvel Films! Based on Mark Millar’s comics of Old Man Logan, Logan sees an aged, battered, and tired Wolverine trying to protect young mutants in a dystopian future.

This might be the only one on the list I have never rewatched, because it’s dark, heavy, and heartbreaking. But I remember it vividly, and the experience was unlike anything I had ever had with any other comic book adaptation.
