The Way of Kings Book Review

We are well into May now but there are still a few weeks left so here are the books I want to burn through for the rest of the month. I have just finished my final year of university so it’s time to sit back and relax for a bit, reading all the books I have had to put on hold for months!!

The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive #1) by Brandon Sanderson

The Fires of Heaven (The Wheel of Time #5) by Robert Jordan

The Wise Man’s Fear (The Kingkiller Chronicle #2) by Patrick Rothfuss

Mistborn: Secret History (Mistborn #3.5) by Brandon Sanderson

Do you have any suggestions regarding this list? I have just completed the Mistborn trilogy but I’m not sure if reading the Secret History is a good idea until I’ve read the Era 2 trilogy. Any tips?

  1. Mistborn: Secret History does spoil the Era 2 so it depends on if you want to go into that series knowing stuff or if you want to wait and be surprised.

  2. Wise Man’s Fear was a good listen (Audio book for men). My advice would be save that til last … that way the eternity-long wait for Rothfuss to get the third book out will be a month or so less for you 🙁

Really struggled with Way of Kings. Just couldn’t get into it.

  3. Yeah, I’ll still have the novella to read by Rothfuss though, so that’ll give me some extra time whilst waiting for the third book!

I’m currently reading Way of Kings right now. I can see what you mean by it being difficult to get into but I’m powering through and I think it’s starting to pay off!

  4. I refuse to read the novella … or any of the books George R.R. Martin writes that aren’t GoT. Its my protest ? kind of like ‘stop doing this and get back to that’ haha

May have to try Way of Kings again.

  5. I would do the same, however it is nice to have some shorter books to read in between all the huge, 900+ page books!

  6. I know that feeling. I’m cheating where length is concerned. I’m reading 300-500 page books and using audible to get the really lengthy things on audio book. The pains of being a slow to average speed reader ?
