Lord of the Rings on Prime – What We Know So Far

Being early in planning and pre-production, much of what will happen in the upcoming Lord of the Rings series by Amazon Prime is unknown, but here is a list of what we know about the show so far.

Amazon has bought the rights for 5 seasons. I will go into more detail on how they might make use of these 5 seasons in a later post!

Amazon studio boss, Jennifer Salke, claims she wants the series to begin in 2020, but since this announcement, we now know it is more likely the show will start filming in 2020 into 2021, for a hopeful 2021 release date.

The series will be set during the 3,441-year period before the events in The Lord of the Rings films. This is The Second Age and is a time of strong magic and deep turmoil. We will see the rise and fall of Númenor, the beginnings of the rings of power and the one ring, and much more. Again, possibilities will be explored in a future post.

J. A. Bayona is set to direct the first 2 episodes of the series. He has previously worked on Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

As more information is released, I will create posts with updates. Follow this site if you want to keep up!

What are you most excited to see with this upcoming show?
