4 Great Harry Potter Alternatives - The Fantasy Review

4 Great Harry Potter Alternatives

Here is my list of 4 Great Harry Potter Alternatives, because why read those when there are other fantasy series out there you might just love even more.

#1 – Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan

Harry Potter Alternatives

Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan – and basically all his other series – are perfect alternatives to Harry Potter. The series follows Percy Jackson, a demigod who discovers the true nature of his birth and has to navigate a new and dangerous world of ancient Greek gods and monsters.

#2 – The Wardstone Chronicles by Joseph Delaney

Harry Potter Alternatives

Also known as The Last Apprentice, The Wardstone Chronicles by Joseph Delaney was the series I started reading as a kid once I had finished Harry Potter and wanted something new. Thomas Ward is the main character in this series, and we follow him as the apprentice to the local Spook – they battle with witches, boggarts, and even old Gods. This is a series you won’t want to miss!

#3 – Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

The young genius, Artemis Fowl, is one of my favourite characters in middle-grade fiction. Alongside his bodyguard and allies he picks up throughout the books, Artemis sets out to unravel the mysteries of the fairies – and steal their gold. In every book there are fantastic twists and enthralling characters.

#4 – The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini

Harry Potter Alternatives

I have included The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini on this list because it’s a fantasy world you can get lost in without having to try very hard. It’s tropey and strongly influenced by Tolkien’s work, but it’s fantastic! With a young farm boy, Eragon, who discovers a dragon egg and goes on to battle an evil king, what isn’t there to like?

  1. I just finished reading The Seven Stones by Robb Arbuckle and it is amazing! The world building and characters are wonderful. No wonder everyone is calling it the next Harry Potter.
