Anticipated Fantasy Book Releases (Oct-Dec 2022)

There are 4 books coming in the next few months that I am very excited about! It seems to always be this time of year when books I want to read come out, which is perfect because it’s my birthday!

Anyway, on to my anticipated fantasy book releases for the rest of 2022…

The Rise of the Dragon by George R. R. Martin

This title will be released on October 25, 2022

There’s a lot of hate, or general irritation at George R. R. Martin for releasing every book except Winds of Winter, but I love this world. The history is fantastic, the characters are amazing, and I will never turn my nose up at an opportunity to jump right back into the world.

With the House of the Dragon show being so good, I’m all the more excited for this release.

The Fall of Númenor: and Other Tales from the Second Age of Middle-earth by J. R. R. Tolkien

This title will be released on November 10, 2022

Unlike House of the Dragon, Amazon’s Rings of Power has fallen flat for me. I enjoyed the first 2 episodes enough (mostly just blown away by how incredible it looked), but I have since stopped enjoying it much. The harfoots are a definite positive though!

The Fall of Númenor is a chance to experience the story again, in more depth than The Silmarillion and less confused than the TV show. This is one of my most anticipated fantasy books of the year and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

The Lost Metal by Brandon Sanderson

This title will be released on November 15, 2022

I have really enjoyed most of The Cosmere books by Brandon Sanderson, but Mistborn Era 2 hasn’t been my favorite. I hope (think) that this is the last book in the series and then we can excitedly await Era 3, which might bring back some of the epic scale and fantastic story writing that Mistborn Era 1 showed.

Having said this, after Bands of Mourning, I am intrigued as to what is going to happen to Wax and Wayne. Most importantly, what are the answers to all the questions we were left with at the end of book 3?

We’ve known The Lost Metal has been coming for a while, and it’s great that it’ll be out very soon!

Dead Man’s Hand by James J. Butcher

This title will be released on October 13, 2022

I am currently 50% through Skin Game by Jim Butcher, book 15 in The Dresden Files, and now his son, James J. Butcher, is releasing an urban fantasy book of his own.

Am I intrigued mostly because of the family relation? Probably. I don’t typically like urban fantasy books. But reading The Dresden Files has shown me that I can enjoy the sub-genre sometimes, so we’ll see what I think!
